Self-image is the way you see, think, and feel about yourself. I am comfortable with my abilities and who I am, but can often second guess myself. With help and assurance from a support group, I can flourish and become confident. In the future, I want to be someone to whom other's can ask advice and someone they can trust. I want to be a child of God, one who leans on Him fully. Through the strength that God gives me, I want to be somebody who others can trust and turn to in their times of need.
Taking the Initiative to Lead:
I enjoy being the leader and making sure our 'mission' is successful. Before choosing to lead, I consider a few things: how much work is needed, amount of time, and if it is something that I am passionate about. A leader needs to be a person that is fully committed, not half way. I want to give the most to my team, and if someone is more capable of leading than I, I will gladly follow whoever that might be.
Personal Reflection
I have grown this past year in my skills of personal reflection. As a teacher, and writing lesson plans, I am constantly thinking about different ways I can change the lesson to better help my students succeed. This can be transferred to a leadership role very simply. It is important to reflect on the success and the failures. There is always room for improvement and one needs to recognize one's mistakes and learn from them. In order to continue to grow in this area, I need to take on more leadership roles and figure out successful ways to lead, all done through personal reflections.
Connection with Others
This is a skill I believe I have strength in. I may seem quiet to others, but I am only listening. An area of growth needed for me to be successful at connecting with others is trust. I need to be able to trust others that the job will get done properly without me stepping in to help. In a team I will need to communicate with my members about important tasks that will need to be completed in order to be successful.
Team Building Skills
It is very hard to be a leader without a team. The team makes the 'mission' successful. In order to be a good leader, one needs to be a good listener, delegater, and approachable. I think it is most important to lead by example. As the leader, you know whose strengths lie where. It is important to acknowledge success and give feedback. It is one thing to assign roles and leave everyone alone, it is another to regularly check in and help each other as needed. A good leader works with his team and ensures success.
